Development Diaries - Entry 2
I've gotten distracted with a handful of things since starting this website, namely an urgent rush to finish Zelda: Breath of the Wild before Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 show up in the mailbox, but I'm still making progress.
The most recent updates have focused on providing the context and color that a Square Town needs to have. Rather than appropriate the identity of a known Final Fantasy character and act like I'm welcoming you into my living room, which is a staple of mid-1990s web development, I thought it would be cool to try and tell a story about a town in crisis that you just happen to stroll into. The actual content, that is to say the MIDI files and the walkthroughs and the screenshots, are all gated behind various in-story locations, and site details are communicated through whatever plot devices I can cook up when I sit down to make updates. If this page existed back in 1997 I'd have a chocobo stable or an airship depot to stand in for links to other websites, but since those other sites pretty much don't exist anymore - you guessed it, plot point.
I have half a mind to go find a copy of RPGMaker and make imagemaps out of everything so this can be a great big point-and-click situation, but if I'm going to go that route then I might as well scrap the entire website and just make a web-based RPG.
